Sosuke Aizen...Pure Evil God

Sosuke Aizen...Pure Evil God

Aizen is a character whose presence never disappoints. He maintains a polite, elegant, and confident demeanor while being calculative and manipulative. Mind fuckery. Mysterious. A sinister and ruthless side. Overwhelmingly threatening. Saying all this in itself doesn't sound that special. It's the execution.

Aizen often has clever dialogue designed to give him "class" or solely to rattle your emotions. The most common aspect associated with Aizen are his plans, sometimes to the extent of criticism. Many believe he literally planned Ichigo's life perfectly from start to finish which is false. All Aizen did was open the door for Ichigo's journey. It's because of him he met Rukia and became a Shinigami. Aizen was aware of Ichigo's naturally high reiatsu. This would potentially lead to Hollows overrunning someone as weak as Rukia and Rukia being forced to share her power. That's not exactly how it happened but you get the idea. It's not as if Aizen sat down and predicted the future, he just went step by step as the present progressed. If Rukia never shared her power then he'd have used another method of awakening Ichigo's power.

The next reason I think Aizen is an amazing character. As a villain he drives his series. He's part of the reason Ichigo was born, he kick started his journey, he's why many of the original Gotei 13 members were kicked out of Soul Society, he's why Kaien Shiba died, he founded the Arrancar, he killed Gin an Tousen, he mind fucked Hitsugaya and Momo. Bleach is almost 700 chapters. A pretty good chunk of that revolved around Aizen

He was even used in the final arc and was the main reason Yhwach was defeated. You might be able to name other villains who are similar but again it's about the execution

Now let's look at the little bit of psychological complexity Aizen has. When Aizen lost Ichigo questions if the Hogyoku really rejected Aizen. The Hogyoku helps to manifest people's wishes and Ichigo claims he can feel people's emotions when they clash. Against Aizen he feels loneliness. This is because of Aizen's superiority complex

In a general sense Aizen stood above everyone else. There was virtually nothing he couldn't accomplish, no one that could defeat him. This is why he decided he'd bring down the Soul King and take his rightful place so to speak. People think there was some deeper story because of when he says to Kisuke how can you follow that thing? He only says this because he views the Soul King as an inferior being to himself. But subconsciously Aizen wanted to lose. It's boring being "at the top" all alone. He wanted something he couldn't do, someone he couldn't beat. That's where Ichigo comes in.

Remember that Aizen says he helped Ichigo progress because of being aware of his potential. He even gave Ichigo a final chance to power up by leaving him unharmed and destroying the cleaner of the Dangai world. When Ichigo returned and he thought he wasn't at his level he says you've wasted the last chance I gave you. I say this is subconscious because we clearly see Aizen gets flustered when he's pushed back by FGT Ichigo and when he says it's hard to forgive Ichigo for defeating him. The angry side he displays adds to his overall characterization

When you consider Aizen's character had to develop into the main villain from his original introduction it's all pretty solid

Lastly I want to mention a pun with the title of the chapter Aizen returns during the final arc. It's the chapter where the Soul King was revived titled Return of the God, on paper you're to believe it's referencing the Soul King but it's also referencing the great Aizen Sosuke. The man who screwed the seemingly untouchable "Almighty" son of the Soul King, Yhwach. Without any plot inference Aizen could kill Yhwach solo, Kubo purposely has him act stupid which is a character inconsistency for the sole purpose of giving Ichigo/Uryu the final blow.
