Light Yagami

Light Yagami...God or Devil

What is good or bad? Does is really matter? Does is make any difference?

I watched Light’s character from a similar perspective to Ryuk’s

Ryuk is curious about how a human would use the Death Note, a book that can kill any person simply by writing their name in it while picturing their face.

The biggest controversy in light’s character is how he can kill innocent people, including police officers for his own survival.

The thing to understand here is that Light becomes an ideal; he is no longer just a person. In his thinking, this justifies conventional morals not applying to him anymore.

And I don’t think he is lying to himself. He indeed has never killed anyone for the sake of pleasure. He has killed innocents only when there would be a significant risk of Kira’s identity being revealed. Other than that, he only killed the worst of the worst.

In a way, he is like a pet elephant. He is a powerhouse, willingly helping you do things you cannot achieve yourself. He can get so much work done, but get in his way and you may be crushed yourself. That’s the cost of having such a powerful entity in the world.

Is he narcissistic? No, in fact, he is quite humble. Remember, he goes through so much trouble to not let others know he possesses such godly power. He does try to boost the Kira brand, but doing so aims to gain traction and support from people. There is no personal gain.

Is he evil? It’s not that simple. What’s evil to you is not evil to me and vice versa. Should you kill one person to save a hundred? Is that your call to make? Only you can tell if you find this behavior good or evil.

Is he a psychopath? That, he may be. He shares a lot of traits with psychopaths. He is excellent at planning. He is extremely manipulative. He lacks some limitations that are present on vast majority of people, limitations such as the inability to hurt an innocent person or the hesitation when you lie.

Does he have God-complex? Yes, but isn’t it somewhat justified? Is it pretentious to act like you’re rich if you are a billionaire? There’s a difference between an ordinary person acting like he can tell everyone everything and Kira actually being able to kill any person in any way he wishes and knowing that he can. I think it’s only fair that he acts that way.

Well, maybe I just like being the Devil’s advocate. I mean, you’re probably a little evil if you can laugh like this.

I am Kira
